Alex Counts founded Grameen Foundation and became its President/CEO in 1997 and ran it until 2016. A Cornell University graduate, Counts’ commitment to poverty eradication deepened as a Fulbright scholar in Bangladesh, where he witnessed innovative poverty solutions being developed by Grameen Bank and Professor Muhammad Yunus, the bank’s founder and co-recipient of the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize. Most recently, his book was “Changing the World Without Losing Your Mind: Leadership Lessons from Three Decades of Social Entrepreneurship” was published to critical acclaim and was a #1 new release best seller in its genre. He teaches public policy at the University of Maryland and serves as a consultant to nonprofit organizations including Indiaspora, where he is a senior philanthropy adviser.
