Neil Makhija is an attorney and educator based in Pennsylvania. In 2016, Neil was the Democratic Nominee for a seat in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from Carbon County. He outperformed the national Democratic ticket by 14 points. Neil has worked in the White House, the US Senate, New York City Hall, and attended Harvard Law School on the Lentz scholarship, endowed by a 19th century coal magnate. A proud native of Pennsylvania’s coal country, Neil is the grandson of refugees and son of immigrants, and the first in three generations of his family to return to his hometown. Neil’s advocacy focuses on bridging the urban-rural divide in American politics. He is currently writing a book on climate change & immigration and serving as a Lecturer at the University of Pennsylvania Law School.
