Swapna Venugopal Ramaswamy

Swapna Venugopal Ramaswamy is a White House Correspondent for USA TODAY. Before that, she was a National Housing and Economy correspondent for the paper. 

She is a recipient of multiple  journalism awards including the 2022 Newswomen's Club of New York's Nellie Bly Award for the Best Bylined Front Page Story and a 2021 Best of Gannett Individual Achievement Award. 

Born and raised in Mumbai, she’s the first Indian-born journalist to serve as a White House correspondent for a national newspaper in the U.S. 

Swapna received a bachelor’s in economics and sociology from St. Xavier’s College. She has a master’s degree in sociology from the University of Bombay, and another in journalism from New York University. A mother of two young adults, she lives in Washington D.C., and Manhattan, New York, with her husband, Sanjay.
