About

Indiaspora began in 2012 with a simple idea:

The success of the global Indian community could be channeled into something bigger than any one of us.

More than a decade later, that idea has grown into a worldwide network of leaders using their influence, expertise, and generosity to make a difference in India, and everywhere the diaspora calls home.

Mission
Our mission is to inspire and position the Indian diaspora to be a force for good and to build bridges among diaspora leaders in several countries and professions with leaders residing in India.
Who We Are

We’re a community of doers: entrepreneurs, policymakers, artists, scientists, and philanthropists of Indian origin who believe success means more when it’s shared. Indiaspora gives that belief a place to go: connecting people, ideas, and resources so the diaspora’s impact reaches further than any one person could take it alone.

Our Story

Indiaspora was founded in 2012 by Silicon Valley entrepreneur M.R. Rangaswami and built under the executive leadership of Sanjeev Joshipura since 2016, launching with the inaugural Indiaspora Forum in New York on a simple but ambitious premise: that the diaspora’s success, if connected and organized, could become a force for good far beyond what any individual could achieve alone.

The years that followed built the case. In 2013, Indiaspora hosted the inaugural Indian American Presidential Ball in Washington, DC. In 2014, the organization convened at the US-India Strategy Dialogue in New Delhi, and in 2015, hosted a Diwali celebration at the Library of Congress: a prelude to one of the community’s proudest achievements. After years of grassroots organizing, 2016 saw the U.S. Postal Service issue its first-ever Diwali stamp, a milestone in the public recognition of the holiday in America.

Our work advanced to include philanthropy, starting in 2017. Indiaspora began incubating the India Philanthropy Alliance that year, hosted its inaugural Philanthropy Summit in 2018 alongside its first research partnership with Dalberg on Indian American diaspora giving, and formally launched the India Philanthropy Alliance in 2019 on the 150th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi’s birth. Indiaspora also launched the ChaloGive online giving campaign in 2019, and when the pandemic hit in 2020, the community mobilized fast, raising over $15 million for COVID-19 relief in India and the U.S. through 2021.

Indiaspora started working with diaspora communities in other countries through our Global Connect program. The program also places an emphasis on connecting friends of the Indian community to a diaspora network. In 2019, the organization took a delegation to the United Kingdom to meet with business and government leaders. In 2021, Indiaspora opened a permanent office in India and took part in the I2U2 Dialogue in the UAE. In 2022, the organization attended the World Economic Forum in Davos for the first time.

Global momentum continued through 2023, with participation in the G20 Forum in New Delhi, the COP28 Climate Action Forum in Dubai, and Prime Minister Modi’s historic U.S. visit, alongside expanded outreach into Australia, Canada, Singapore, the UAE, and the UK. In 2024, Indiaspora held two AI-focused summits in San Francisco and hosted geopolitical dialogues at the UK’s House of Lords and Commons. And in 2025, the organization launched its flagship Forum for Good in Abu Dhabi, alongside the Global AI Summit in Dubai. In 2026, the organization held the Global Forum in Bengaluru, India, offering global leaders to connect with dynamic leaders powering India’s growth story.

As Indiaspora has grown, our focus on thought leadership and institution building has created critical partnerships to expand the diaspora’s global reach. The reports written in partnership in collaboration with reputed partners, like BCG and Dalberg, are creating a robust quantitative and qualitative narrative about the Indian diaspora.

Today, Indiaspora’s work spans across philanthropy, global connect, civic engagement and social impact, and entrepreneurship and innovation; carried out through flagship summits, regional meetups, mentorship programs, and a growing IndiasporaNEXT community. All of this is intende to lay the foundation for years to come.
