India and its Diaspora

Over decades, the Indian diaspora has played a significant role in shaping and strengthening ties with India. As the country approaches the centenary of its independence in 2047, known as India@100, this milestone offers an opportunity to take stock of how diaspora engagement has evolved and to consider its role in the years ahead.

This report draws on original primary research, including a focused survey of more than 200 diaspora members across 24 countries, inputs from 50 Indian non-profits, and conversations with over 40 leaders across 12 countries. The analysis is also informed by secondary research from reputable public, academic and institutional sources. The report presents compelling personal reflections from various leaders, offering insight into their aspirations and commitments to India@100, alongside recommendations to strengthen this evolving relationship. It invites readers to learn from the diverse pathways others have taken and to reflect on how they, too, might choose to engage at this pivotal moment.
