Challa Sreenivasulu Setty, also known as C.S. Setty, is an Indian banker and the current Chairman of the State Bank of India (SBI), India’s largest public sector bank. Setty began his career with SBI in 1988 as a Probationary Officer, and has accumulated over three decades of experience across various functions of the bank, both in India and internationally. Prior to his appointment as Chairman, he served as a Managing Director on the SBI board, overseeing International Banking, Global Markets, and Technology verticals. He also previously headed the Retail & Digital Banking portfolio and was instrumental in the Stressed Assets Resolution Group.

Before his role as Managing Director at SBI, he was the Managing Director and CEO of SBI Cards and Payment Services Ltd. His international experience includes serving as the Country Head of the US Operations of State Bank of India and as the Regional Head and General Manager for East Asia, based in Hong Kong. Setty holds a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture and is a Certified Associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers. He is known for his extensive experience in corporate credit, retail, digital, and international banking. He also serves as the Chairman of the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA).

C.S. Setty led SBI to a record net profit of US $9.2 billion for FY 2024‑25, making it one of the world’s top 100 profit‑making companies.  He expanded the workforce—recruiting 13,455 Junior Associates and targeting 18,000 new hires—to cut branch wait times and boost customer service. Under his stewardship, SBI reduced savings account and term deposit rates following RBI’s repo cuts, enhancing its market responsiveness.
