Singing Mother Teresa’s Legacy

On September 6, 2025, I have the privilege of performing in Journey of Faith: A Musical Tribute to Mother Teresa at the Music Center at Strathmore. Following our triumphant Carnegie Hall debut, this one-night-only performance with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Dante Anzolini, will feature baritone Sean Michael Plumb, a professional Tribute Chorale, and a program that spans centuries and cultures.

The evening opens with Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem, a serene and deeply moving work the composer described as an expression of his vision of death being a “happy deliverance.” We’ll also perform the D.C. premiere of Hymn for Mother Teresa by Albanian composers Genc Tukiçi and Lorenc Antoni, as well as works by J.S. Bach, Vaughan Williams, Herbert Hughes, Gustav Holst, Philip Glass, Missy Mazzoli, and more. These pieces are organized into three segments that follow the arc of Mother Teresa’s life– from her joyful youth, to leaving her homeland for Ireland, to her decades of work in Kolkata and her global legacy.

Mother Teresa was devoted to the people of Kolkata, India. Though born in Skopje, she made Kolkata her home and served its most vulnerable residents for decades. She built the Missionaries of Charity into a worldwide mission of compassion, touching millions of lives while rooted in India’s streets, traditions, and spirit. Her work reminds us that small acts of love can ripple outward to change the world.
